A simple guide on how to measure up to get the right dress size

General information

Taking the correct measurements for your dress is without doubt a very important part of the ordering process.

Designers determine the size of their dresses using three specific areas: the bust, waist and hips.

Top 5 tips for measuring correctly

It's important to take all measurements correctly to be sure you get the right dress sizes.

Here are some handy tips for achieving that:

  1. It's helpful to have someone with you when you're taking measurements.
  2. Where possible, it's always best to be measured while wearing undergarments.
  3. All sizing should ideally be made in inches.
  4. Consider the likelihood of possible weight loss or gain as well as any growth.
  5. Remember that US sizes are slightly different to UK sizes.

It's also worth remembering that, because everyone comes in different shapes as well as sizes, adjustments or alterations to the dress are nearly always needed for a really perfect fit.

With this in mind, if you're between sizes, it's better to choose a slightly larger size than smaller because, from a seamstress' point of view, it's much easier to take a dress in rather than let it out.

Please note that our dresses are displayed in US sizes and are are NOT standard UK sized gowns. Elderberry Bridesmaids cannot accept responsibility for any incorrect size(s) ordered.
